Monarch Butterfly Cupcakes
Stephen is super encouraging of my new baking hobby (he's the taste-tester!), so he got me the book "Hello, Cupcake" for some ideas. I love, love, LOVED the monarch butterfly cupcakes and thought they'd be great for our friends' engagement party.
As per the book, I painted the wings onto waxed paper with melted orange and dark chocolate wafers. I was a little bit disappointed with the dull orange color of the wafers. The wings in the book looked more vibrant. Next time, I think I'll try making my own orange by mixing colors.
I also tried the semi-homemade recipe from the book (used yellow cake mix, replaced the water with a cup of buttermilk and added an extra egg), which turned out nicely. They rose nicely and were very moist. Yum!
