Hi again!
A few weeks ago, I had my first attempt at fondant with the Super Mario cupcakes. It was a lot of fun, kinda like Play-Doh! :)
We celebrated Stephen's nephew's christening today (he is too precious!). I originally thought of making Noah's ark cupcakes with fondant animals, but I knew I'd have a hard enough time making one animal look how I wanted it, let alone TWO of kind! So, the idea evolved into a "toy box" themed cake.
Here is the front view:
The sides of the box are graham crackers covered in mint green tinted fondant. This worked way better in my head than on the cake! Trial and error, right?!
There are fondant toys: lion, clown, elephant, monkey, ducky, small blocks, bunny, "Cholly" dolly, turtle, kite, baseball and bat. (The giraffe's head fell off, otherwise he'd be in there, too! :P)
...and there are a couple pieces made from melted wafers: airplane, firetruck, train, sailboat, large "ALEX" blocks.
I had a hard time making fondant cubes look, well, cubic, so I used my silicone baking pan as a chocolate mold.
Here's Cholly:
Stephen made the turtle! :)
I think if I attempt to do this type of cake again, I'll use a mini loaf cake for the trunk. The graham cracker walls were not super stable and sadly did not hold up for the hour in the car (slow down, Stephen!). It also didn't help that the cake was too tall for my Wilton cake carrier. I've been googling tall cake carriers since we got back! No luck yet...
Hope to share a new project with you soon! :)
